The kids are grown and we are now offering some of the extra items around the farm we no longer need. We moved it from Nevada to Moravia on a beaver tail car trailer, loading it with a wench attached to the trailer. This new coop takes each issue we have had to deal with into consideration, and, as with all homesteading experiences, attempts to keep us one step ahead of the problem!

The chickens peck at and drink the drips that hang from the nipple once it has been nudged by the chicken. At present the drip system is fed from this large barrel, and we need to fill the barrel about once a month from a hose. The convenience of pellets is lost when you switch to organic since the product they use to bind the feed into pellets is not organic, so the organic feed is all mash. The chickens turn it over by scratching in it, they use it for dust baths, and the manure that starts to compost in the wood chips keeps the coop warmer in the winter.

This can mean up to 6 months of almost zero production, and since we are raising chickens to sell their eggs, this will not allow us to meet our costs. We have lost a few occasionally to coyotes, but for the most part, our dog keeps the coyotes away, as well as bears, mink, raccoons, and stray dogs. Paint helps keep mites down since mites will burrow in the walls and come out at night, attacking the chickens. Great way to using the poop deck to collect, our coop has a concrete floor with a large drain hole to wash out, but I love the poop deck idea.

Our unsurpassed reputation is evident in the strength, durability and detailing of our poultry farms and agricultural buildings. These large scale sheds are engineered to comply with all the relevant Standards, local council requirements and the relevant Building Code regulations, regardless of where you are in the world.

Likewise, when it comes to industrial application and volume-metric buildings, we undertake extensive analysis to ensure the span, bay space, springing height, apex height, etc. Our expert industry experience ensures our buildings are delivered in full, on time and within budget. This building has housed chickens, goats, turkeys, ducks, dogs, puppies and an occassional horse!

The drawers certainly did not open and close smoothly. This problem got worse as the weight of the tools inside of the drawer increased. Tools would roll around and bang into each other. There was little real organization. Plus, it was plastic! Eventually the plastic drawers cracked. The plastic frame broke. The entire unit basically became completely useless. It served its intended purpose for the short time that it needed to. Portable toolboxes have been around for hundreds of years.

Wooden chests were used on medieval sailing ships. Pre-industrial joiners and cabinet makers built boxes to secure their tools and help move them when they changed shops. A portable toolbox can be found in just about every barn, shed, garage, and basement.

They can be made of wood, metal, or plastic. They come in all shapes and sizes. They tend to be small enough that they can be picked up and carried from job to job. Some are stackable, or even rack-able, providing additional flexibility of organization and transportation. Portable toolboxes are one of my favorite storage solutions — for my home improvement tools. I have one for carpentry tools; one for electrical tools; one for hand-held power tools; and one for plumbing tools.

This makes it easy for me to grab the box I need and take all the tools to the job. When it comes to the tools that I use for fine woodworking, however, I find portable toolboxes poorly designed. Most are too small to hold anything longer than a jack plane or tenon saw.

The trays, if they have them at all, allow the tools to roll around and bang into each other. I also find them very inconvenient to work out of at the bench.

However, these boxes require too much tool shuffling to keep them organized. For me, portable toolboxes like these are great for small kits of specialized home improvement tools. The chest was a birthday gift from my wife shortly after we moved into our first house. You can download the additional shop drawings that you purchased using the link in this box.
