Vista wpa-psk aes

For complete information about this session see the Wireless Diagnostic Informational Event. Helper Class: Layer2 Security. Initialize Status: Success. Result of diagnosis: Problem found. Root cause:. Windows cannot connect to "3Com". Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout. Detailed root cause:. Layer 2 security key exchange did not generate multicast keys before timeout. Repair option:.

Try connecting to "3Com" again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or hardware manufacturer for further assistance. Ive no idea how to sort this out, ive phoned 3com, they say the router is Vista compatible. Can anyone help at all? Thanks Guys. Well here is my story.

I did an upgrade on my home pc Dell Dim to Vista Business. I can not connect to the internet wired unless I use a Static IP. Well samething, "Local Only" for wired connection I cannot use a static, due to connecting at the office also , Unbelievabley I was able to connect via wireless "Local and Internet" however, it was not consistant.

What the hell is the deal here? Is it Vista? I keep searching and searching and cannot find an answer. I also have many, many, many Error , NETw4v32 in the system event viewer. When connecting to a linksys wireless router, the machine will not connect, the acer software actually pops up a message saying "internet disconnected" and when you diagnose, it reports as a time out.

This fault has occured in the last 2 hours, having previously worked all day, and previously there have been no issues connecting to this router over the last 2 months. The machine will still connect to another network, and other machines can connect to this network. We have re-booted the machine and the router, powered off and on the W-LAN card, we have uninstalled and re-installed the network card. We have also installed a USB wireless card to same effect.

I have tried the hotfix posted earlier, and most of the other things suggested here, but to no effect. As an aside, anyone know if I use the recovery stuff that we created when we bought the machine, will it lose all our new files. We need this machine online!! MarcSachs wrote: A recovery will normally wipe the machine to the state it was in when you purchased it. I would have thought so, not sure if they had improved that side of Vista - I guess we may find out this weekend.

Noticed there is a new Atheros update on windows update, which I think was released just before the problem started, so I have installed the security updates and this update and see how it behaves for a week. I have the same issues.

I have tried everything that everyone has submitted, but nothing is working. I'm calling toshiba tonight If I find anything else out i'll be sure to post it.

To disable IPv6 on a specific connection, you can do the following:. Hope this helps somebody out there. I switched the router operation mode from. Having been on an upgrade programme at work to upgrade all our routers upgraded to netgear dgg from 3com office connect I believe that one of the main causes for this problem is the officeconnect router.

We had some XP laptops and a dell desktop on XP that were giving us the same error message, once I changed the router all items connected without a single glitch - I genuinely believe the 3com router is a liability and is causing all of your problems. Use 10 numbers like instead. Click on the Start menu and type cmd in the search box. Same problem here. With one exception I'm the type of guy that helps everybody else with their computer problems and I usually get the job done, but not this time.

What got this saga started for me was the fact that I've been using WEP-PSK for the longest time and it has always worked, even on the latest addition, my new Vista Business-preinstalled laptop. I'm glad I found this thread, so I can stop being frustrated and stop having these feelings of Computer-Directed Aggression, I know now that it's just not going to work.

I've done everything that has been suggested here, the Intel driver is currently At least I know now that Microsoft is to blame here. If this was the only thing wrong with Vista, I might consider switching back to WEP, but there are a few other things that I'm so annoyed with that I'm going to go back to XP. That has been my intention from the beginning, but I thought Vista deserved a fair chance.

Well, it has had just that. Now I know. As soon as I'm able to make a full backup of this piece of junk, I'm back to installing XP. Good grief! I have tried all the work-arounds suggested in this thread with no success though, like ed, it mysteriously connected once whilst switched to automatic. Sony have been unable to help. I had given up hope and was about to go out and buy a new router when I had one last trawl of this forum and came upon "Vista won't Connect to Internet I tried JeffC69's suggestion, following Big Mak's comment re authority - and it worked!

It took a couple of attempts to establish the connection initially but now, after several reboots in different locations, it seems to work every time. We appear to have a solution! If I buy a new router, which I shall probably do anyway, as, because of this problem, I have now promised my not very old 3Com to someone else, and I set it up for WPA2, will it be compatible with machines running XP or older systems, which may not have a WPA2 capability?

Note that these posts go back over a year - to the early Beta days, in fact. We probably do not have a solution! Sure enough, as Petoro predicted, I couldn't get a connection. This morning, however, after a sticky start with an initial failure, I am able to connect.

I have had several reboots, and the speed of connecting improves with the number of starts. The machine is less than 2m from the router, but this should not make any difference. I accept that to make a new OS compatible with millions of items of legacy hardware is unrealistic, but WPA is not a piece of legacy hardware, it is an almost universal system. Having spent hours days! Also moving the Laptop to a differnet room work stright away however I'm getting messages that suddenly my network key is incorrect haven't see this problem before.

I'm wondering if we have several problems here, one being wifi environment issues and how Vista authenticates to the router. Please can you try this and let me know your outcome?

I have never had an issue connecting - but if connected wirelessly the connection drops repeatedly and will only reconnect after system has been rebooted. Error message is Event NETw4v Works fine ONLY if physically connected to router.

Other issue in this brand new Dell Vista Business laptop is that it will not let me load Java. Tried all fixes as per WWW. Is there any connection between these two issues? Is my redress against Dell, Microsoft or Intel? Should I be patient or revert to XP? Any help, support or comfort will be much appreciated!

No - I was wrong - I have just lost the connection despite being directly connected to the router a BT Home Hub rather than wirelessly. Again all OK on rebooting until the next time. Not hopeful that this will get sorted, but another combination with absolutely no joy Samsung R70, intel abg v Connecting to Belkin F5duk4a with latest firmware.

Tried the power management option, disabling ipv6, and also on the router changing modes mixed and g only. Apologies if this has already been mentioned there's a lot of posts to look through!

It says a supported Hotfix is available, but "This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain the hotfix. I have the same problem. I tried everything and I can only connect when I'm next to my router in the same room ,otherwise it takes minutes to connect from another room even the next room.

My laptop with XP connects perfectly. The signal quality is excellent every room in the house, but can't connect with vista Layer 2 security problems and timeout error. Not a very satisfactory solution, and their explanation of the problem is deliberately? As I have bitten the bullet and, against my better judgement, bought a new router I have not tried the Hotfix.

Has anybody else? Having studied this thread, and similar threads on other forums discussing the same problem and wasted countless hours , I am now convinced that the problem is purely and simply an encryption system incompatability. Vista is currently designed to connect wirelessly only with WPA2 encryption. It is not an IPv6 problem - if it were, there would also be problems with hard-wired LAN connections or with encryption disabled , and everyone consistently reports that there are not.

Incidentally, closing IPv6 on my machine cut off my expensive bluetooth mouse - not a good long term solution! There are consistent reports of occasional and sporadic connection with WPA, but the connections are not consistent or reliable. Most of this year's freshmen will have Vista. Beveiliging en verificatie. Geconfigureerd versleutelingstype: TKIP. Sleuteluitwisseling gestart: Ja. Unicast-sleutel ontvangen: Ja. Multicast-sleutel ontvangen: Nee. Oh yeah, I tried the latest Intel drivers v Shame that Intel hasn't provided a full Proset wireless client for Vista yet I gave up the fight and got a cheap router on Ebay that supports WPA Hi BlackbirdJ I can only assume that Microsoft has for some reason omitted or hasn't realised?

Or am I really misinterpreting it there??? Please reread the paragraph and tell me if u come to the same conclusion. Sorry, BlackbirdJ Did this, rebooted the machine and it was then able to connect.

Channel: 6 2. The strange thing is that is does connect when I hold the notebook directly next to the router at just an inch or so , after which it stays connected anywhere around. I did have to contact Microsoft for the fix which they sent through very quickly and I have been testing for the last week without issue.

Can someone pass the fix along? Hey, I have installed hotfix KB but the problem is still not fixed. Any other solution available? Not sure if this helps but since I posted on 7 June, we have reset to factory settings, and switched off auto-update for everything but critical updates.

Thx for the suggestions I will try your suggestion and let you know. Well this problem I had to and was driving me MAD!!!! In-a-nutshell- Belkin were fantastic, try your Router Manufacturer, you just never know. You'll receive it within 6 businness hours. Installed it, rebooted and everything worked! Recently bought a Samsung laptop running Vista Home Premium.

It just says authentication time out error and I end up going round in circles trying everything I know but without success. Samsung suggested a returning the laptop back to 'as shop bought' mode using their inbuilt recovery software, didn't work b using a microsoft KB article to fettle the Registry!!!!

I hope they haven't just assumed it is faulty without tetsing it, or that they make sure the replace it with a different make, as otherwise I can't see why I won't have the same problem. To me, it feels like a Vista glitch because for an amateur I have tried some pretty hard core telephone advice so far I seem unable to get any more of a Firmware update for my router, but when I rang Belkin they were ultra confident their product wasn't the problem.

The wireless car is given as an Atherus brand, can't remember the model number, but I don't see how hardware can be faulty when it connects in 'open' and 'WEP' modes but not WPA???????? Unless it is the driver for the LAN card at fault, but I don't see a more recent driver for it and Samsung haven't sent or suggested I need one.

Anyone taking bets on Vista? Guess what? Laptop back, supposedly a new wireless card, but same old problem. I strongly believe this is Vista related and however much I am getting told to get a new router, update the un-updateable firmwares and drivers the hardware companies don't have updates as they say I'm up to date and they are Vista compatible! I am looking at installing XP even though I bought this laptop in good faith with Vista pre-installed.

Belkin have tried to help, Samsung have tried to help, but what can they do against a very poor OP and Microsofts insistance that bugs happen, we can't test them all? If anyone out there has a solution other than those already posted, I'd love to hear it. Well, this solution worked for me. Thanks, Heggie. Thank you all for your input. I don't know, but so far nobody has resolved it for me, and the nice Samsung Techie bloke siad the XP option was one that most people were taking My solution was to take the brand new laptop, purchased with Vista at a cost and trash it in favour of XP Professional.

It now works a treat connecting with WPA. Will keeep checking back, and crossing fingers while I use my standard Cat5 Connection ;-. It worked with a Netgear Router, but not with the Zyxel.

I always got the timeout from multicast like described before. Router works fine with 4 other wireless devices, just not with Vista yet. Intel now have a version Oddly, I also initially experienced two successful connections when I wasn't trying to make it work but since then it's not worked at all. Finally I solved it.

From start it only worked with WEP or no security. Hi have the same problem. Vista does not connect to WPA. My XP machine works fine. I am just not willing to downgrade to WEP or unsecure connection. Can not believe that Microsoft still has not fixed the problem. Then Vista connects. As soon as it is connected I can take away the laptop from the router and it mainly stays connected.

Yep, same problem here. I too can connect either standing 2 ins aways from the router or in the next room. This is plain madness This forum's been going for nearly a year now with no resolution.

You guys are going to love this I was thinking last night about being able to connect either 2 cms from the router and another room By putting tinfoil on the aerials of my 3Com I'm able to connect stright away!

I'm amazed. I'm going to burn my MCP certification. After much googling for this issue, this thread seemed to be the only useful place out there even if there aren't too many answers!

I've finally got my 3com router connecting to my intel wireless card inside a Toshiba laptop. I upgraded both the wireless card driver didn't seem to do anything , but also the firmware for the 3com router. Everything's working fantastic now. Maybe worth a try to others in the same situation? Ok, so my last post may be a bit of a red herring! I just uninstalled the trial version of Norton on this computer and now I'm back to square one with trying to get it connected tothe 3com router with WPA!!

I've given up now, and downgraded my router to WEP bit, everything seems to be working fine in this mode - although I do worry about the decreased security I have been coping with the same problem for a while now. However lately I have noticed that if I connect the laptop with cable to my router, the computer picks up the wireless signal after a while mins. I am curious if this is the case for other people here in this thread as well.

I've also de agn No possible with WPA. With this even though under "connect to a network" it says "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network". I have the same problem as everyone else here.

The PSP and Laptop are both wireless It connects when I first open my laptop and from there it seems like every minutes it jumps in and out of connection. I have tried everything I know plus talked to my IT guy at work and hes given me a few ideas but nothing has helped.

If anyone finds anything please help us all. Thought I'd add my voice to the chorus. No SSID, no connection. Yes, I checked the "connect even if not broadcasting ssid" thing. Yes, I've been able to connect to it randomly - and why it decides if it is going to connect or not is anyone's guess. Don't get me started on why my vpn doesn't work on the wireless when it finally decides to connect either. This is stupid. A brand new vista ultimate setup, a brand new laptop and I can't connect to a stupid wireless router.

Thanks alot vista. Every other lappy I've had works fine. This most definitely is some kind of vista stupidity. Where's XP's "repair" option in vista to give the stupid wireless a swift kick in the jimmy? At least if xp got confused I could get it to restart the wireless stuff and try to reconnect.

I had a router from Sky Broadband which I reflashed to allow me to reconfigure it. I then connected the router up and then attempted the wireless connect from the vista laptop. I was prompted for the passphrase which it accepted eventually, and low and behold a 10 month problem was resolved. I then connected my xp laptop to the router and that worked. The only thing I can think of is that Belkin my old router was not tested against Vista. The old sky router is netgear which works fine now.

Think it is 1. Anyone with a netgear who has admin rights probably just needs to download the firmware, but not sure what to suggest with problem belkins other than get rid of it and get a netgear which seems to have been tested with Vista. The story so far: I received a brand new laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.

During the initial start-up of Vista I have pulled the power cord incidently without noticing, so the laptop battery has run flat. This has corrupted my Vista setup and I had to go through the painful proccess of using recovery DVD and searching for drivers. Apparently the Vista wireless driver worked after a few unsuccessful connection attempts timeout.

This has allowed me to use Windows Update and there was about a few dozens "hotfixes". Well it has stopped working after this. After repeating the painfull process of recovery and Windows Update I have got the same result. After downloading the Wireless Network Adapter driver I decided to give it a try before wiping Vista out.

I manually selected the downloaded driver. Straight away! I could not believe it! I rebooted the laptop to make sure the settings stay and it still works OK! All the protocol settings in the network connection properties IPv4, IPv6, etc.. Well, maybe I will keep Vista on my laptop for a while.

I have just found out that the bloody thing connects wirelessly only when a normal Ethernet connection is present. After this I can unplug the cable and continue using wireless. I think the problem is due to commercial factors, they wont we buy a new router.!!!!! I too was having wirless connection issues with my Toshiba A laptop using Vista.

I was getting timeout issues, and various other symptons reported in this thread. So far I've had troublefree wireless for 3 days straight now, so I thought I would share my setup in the hope it might help others.. I sometimes have to connect with the LAN cable to get the wireless to kick in. I spent about hours solving this exact problem. And I was ok after the I completed the two steps..

It seems main problem here is with router as I was experiencing the problem till I had not updated. I have the same problem expresses by "Grey" See all 4 posts in this forum.

The problem is NOT with Vista. You will not be seeing a patch from Vista for a problem is NOT there. Here's the fix and it is so very simple. Go to your router home page click on edit wireless settings. That will take you to 'Configure the wireless settings' Then go to the bottom and click on SAVE. That will change the security setting for the wireless connection. Now the wireless connection will not connect until you change the authentication in Vista.

I can only connect to the Router when my laptop is just 1 inch away from the Router and after trying several times to connect.

Once connected, it all works fine. And I had the same setup. No stability problems. Same wireless setup as before and now I have stability problems, but only with the laptop, not the wii, or psp.

The laptop still has stability problems, but is much improved. I have a D-Link Dir wireless N router. My laptop has wireless N as well. Anyway the router I have is one of the better routers on the market and puts out an even better signal than the G routers. If you see something I am missing or think I should try, please let me know.

Thanks again. Let me say my wireless connection always worked fine on Vista except the security was WEP. I read every post on this site and everyone had me convinced it was Vista. I tried all the suggestions. None of them work.

Then I decided to try the router home page and change those settings as I stated above. I can also use any of the other WPA settings since my router was changed. I'm not sure why others are having problems, I'm not. The wireless connection on my laptop with Vista works just fine and I'm secured up, finally. I wish I could help those continuing to have problems but IMPO I'll be very surprised if Vista ever has a patch for a problem that I do not believe exists.

Look elsewhere One last note, if the connection is weak diagnose it send the report to Microsoft and allow Microsoft to repair it. When I have a limited connection Through this, one may fine a solution. I have been wrestling with this for four days and tried as many of the above things as I felt competent to attempt. Today, I tried to install a 3com wireless adapter that I had from a previous machine that had no wireless card in it I bought the adapter with the 3com router.

This didn't seem to work so I gave up. Other than that, I am lost to explain what has happened. Relief tinged with nerves that this might be temporary. Ok, an update to the last message. Two weeks on and the wireless connection routinely fails when I am in the same room as the router or in the room below it but it routinely works when I am three rooms away. So now I work by the fire in the living room could be worse. However, the connection timeout is almost certainly caused by the signal from the router being too strong.

If I keep my distance, that gives it time to log on successfully. Also, I have had no problems with numerous other wireless networks I have encountered in hotels and public spaces, so it is not a hardware issue. Wow - this problem is 3 years down the track - anyone find any solutions yet? I was not able to connect to my netgear wnrpt range extender or my verizon Hotspot. Amazingly I installed Windows 7 and it corrected both of these problems.

The problem is a Windows Vista issue. Upgrading to windows 7 will definitely solve this problem and many other problems you might be having with Vista. I know some of these posts are quite old but I figured I'd post my solution that finally solved this annoying puzzle. For WEP at least.

One person's suggestion somewhere similar to the poster above me suggested updating the wireless network card's driver. Even when I went to HP. I eventually just did a Google search for "Atheros xxx Driver. The info should all be there. After I found a version 9. A lot of people suggest "Hey why not just use WEP? You might as well leave it unsecured or put up a big sign in your yard with your WEP password, Lol ;D Hope this is of help to somone out there.

Where does all this configuration go now?
