It is at least better than the EVA at fast forwarding through files, and scanning through files to find a point where you left off is more effective as well. It also bookmarks your place in a file automatically when you hit the stop button, making it easy to return to watching a file at a later date.

The user interface itself is basic, but functional and, if anything, slightly easier to use than the Netgear as well. But there are, alas, more problems. I thought the device had crashed a couple of times, until I pointed the remote directly at it and it worked. This is unnecessarily fiddly to set up too, requiring you to enter the device id as well as all usual shenanigans involved in network setup. And anyone who plans to use it as an audio server might want to think again too, as file format support is weak.

Well I have looked at many in recent days and will advise you if considering one to Google them extensively. Ebay is a source of NMPs but the ones I saw listed almost all seemed to have buggy firmware according to net reports. The MG35 also has it's bugs but the clincher here apart from price!!

So, I plugged the thing in and it found my network straight away. I set up the interface as I wanted and then navigated to my AVIs and played them without any issues. Next to upgrade the firmware to a modded one, simply browse the network to the latest stock firmware, select the file and the box knows that it's a firmware file and flashes it for you. Next flash the modded firmware and you are done.

There is also a wireless MG for those who like freedom from network cables. One final comment. Thanks for the feedback Sneckie Techie. I've been running my current htpc with a pvr, and to be honest the quality isn't great; I don't know if you're familiar with the card but you're severely limited with the inputs. I've been using a TVDrive since last September and there's no way my htpc can do what it does.

As for watching tv Very pretty as well, both graphically and operation wise. I can honestly say though that the vast majority of its functionality is unused by me; i need something to spit my media out quickly whenever I want. All this means that obviously my pc needs to be on. Fine if I'm dicking around on the web, but to just pop some music on over dinner is a bit of a pain in the rse.

I've also invested reasonably heavily in trying to shut the damn thing up! So price wise, we've already gone over the price of the Freecom. I think I'll take the plunge, particularly as I've seen the firmware update that lets you edit your menu's. Many thanks again for the feedback, I'll let you know of my adventures.

You've obviously thought it through carefully and makes sense in light of what you say - I'm certainly pleased with the - ok, there's some niggles, but nothing is absolutely perfect and, for the money, it's a winner. Hope it goes well for you. Networked to the pc and a gb internal harddrive. For improvement of stereo sound i use an Ultramatch pro SRC dac upsampler.

I have a love hate relationship with this piece of hardware. It doesn't mater if i stream the file or if copy them to the devices internal hard drive. Is anybody else tackling this problem, or even better solved it in an not to time consuming way?

Buy the way to reduce vibrations from the harddrive i'v put it sideways and sticked 4 spikes to it. Also it's the most electronic mains noise producing device in my hifi system, so the toslink connection to the DAC is preferred.

Currentlly i'm looking for an alternative device that does play all divx formats. Any suggestions.. If so is it smooth and reliable and can you change the speed of the FF?

Sneckie Techie said:. This post is getting a little long and I'm not sure which model you are thinking of - was it the 35 model or the model you were thinking of getting? Does anyone know the answer to this one please? I have no other way of finding out. Thanks ST, I was wondering, is there any gap between audio tracks played? I have a load of dance mp3s, which are from mix cds and if there's a gap between them it somewhat breaks the moment, you know?

Cheers mate I may have to reconsider. I was thinking of getting one of these babies and have a cat5e run from my Pc in the study upstairs and it is run to my new extension. Is the 35 the best option to go for? It is quite a bit cheaper the 35 but is this the only difference? You must log in or register to reply here.
