Unable delete hosts file vista




















I do not have Antivirus software and I will try again tomorrow. I just ran the Mr. Fixit many different ways and what I see is that it renames my current hosts file to hosts. You don't really "need" a host files anyway - it just contains IP addresses to sites that you might want your browser to block and not display like advertising sites. Then call McAfee back and tell them that it is impossible for your hosts file to be corrupted since it is just the default XP hosts file and see what they are going to do about your icon not showing up in the XP Taskbar Notification area.

If they don't like it, delete your hosts file and it will be even more impossible for your hosts file to be corrupted since you don't even have one. I think it has nothing to do with your hosts file, and McAfee either has no idea what the problem is or they will instruct you to uninstall using their special uninstall program of course and reinstall your McAfee and "see if it helps". When you do that, be sure you go thorough the entire process from end to end with them on the phone, including and especially a reboot and don't disconnect from the call until you get satisfaction.

You don't want to have to call them back when it doesn't work and start over with your problem on a new person. I understand that you are unable to access google.
